The Medical Supplies You Need to Care for Bed-Bound Patients
Bed-bound or bedridden patients require certain medical supplies for maximum comfort, cleanliness, and dignity.
In this article, we’ll discuss what bedridden patient care products are necessary for bed-bound patients and where/how to obtain them.
While generally most bed-bound or bedridden patients will have their medical supplies covered by an insurance program (Medicare, Medicaid, and/or private insurance), we want you to know that there are many products out there that are not covered by these insurances simply because the cost is higher than what the insurance company will allow.
Please check with your local provider first before, as we can not say what is and is not covered entirely by insurance.
For our bedridden patients, we have a top-tier combination of incontinence products, urinary products, and cleaning products that provide comfort, reliability against leaks, maintain skin breathability, and promote the overall health of the patient.
List of medical supplies for bedridden patients
Most bed-bound patients will need a long list of supplies, including but not limited to:
Incontinence supplies for bed-bound patients
While there are many options, we want to introduce the Tranquility (circle R) line, a specialized product line for bed-bound and bariatric patients.
- All the products offer maximum absorption, up to a quart of liquid in some instances, along with durable materials, easy to adjust tabs, and slip-resistant materials.
- Tranquility offers:
- Tranquility Heavy Duty Underpad for Bed Bound Patients, a bed pad/chux;
- the Tranquility Premium OverNight Disposable Absorbent Underwear, a pull-on/disposable underwear;
- the SmartCore Disposable Briefs for Bedridden Patients, a diaper
- Tranquility TopLiner Booster Pad and Contour Pads, an additional liner pad that adds absorbency to any incontinence product.
The Tranquility (circle R) line is our top tier product line for bed-bound patients, but there are other brands who make comparable products.
Skin care for bed-bound patients
Skin care and skin breakdown are another major concern for patients who aren’t mobile. Skin ulcers are a serious medical condition that if left untreated can cause serious medical complications.
We offer many types of skin ointments and wound care products to help prevent or treat skin ulcers. The type of ointment or treatment is best decided by a physician but once you know what you need, our Wound Care and Wipes and Skin Aids pages are where you need to look.
It is there you will also find specific wound care dressings and bandages, a wide variety of incontinence wipes for bathroom purposes, like:
- Prevail Premium Adult Washcloths
- Convatec Aloe Vesta Bathing Cloths for no-rinse bathing
- Toothette Oral Swabs, for oral hygiene.
All of these items are essential for providing the best quality of life care to a bedridden patient and we are able to ship them quickly to your door.
Medical supplies for caregivers to bedridden patients
Finally, most patients who are bedridden will have round the clock caregivers.
These caregivers may or may not provide their own supplies, or you may not approve of the quality of supplies they bring.
We offer many supplies that caregivers can use to keep the patient healthy, their environment clean, and everything sanitary.
Gloves are essential, be they latex, non-latex, nitrile, sterile or not and we offer a large selection along with other sanitation products like the Viraguard Antimicrobial / Antiseptic Hand Wipes.
Even with round the clock care, it is a good idea to keep sanitation items stocked up for family or visitors. Keeping the patient safe should be a top priority.
